A polarimeter for measuring the rotation of optically active samples comprises a light source which generates a measuring light beam, a polarizer mounted for rotation about the beam axis of the measuring light beam, a driving mechanism for reciprocating rotational movement of the polarizer, a sample vessel, an analyzer behind the sample vessel, a photoelectric detector, and balancing means which are controlled by the signal of the photoelectric detector and by which a position can be achieved in which the polarizer and analyzer are arranged substantially crosswise. The balancing means comprises a steeper motor for rotating the polarizer with an adjusting movement superimposed by the reciprocatingly rotational movement by which adjusting movement a quick coarse balancing of the polarizer plane of the measuring light beam relative to a zero position of the analyzer is achieved. Fine measuring means are provided for the fine measuring of the angle between the polarization plane of the analyzer in its zero position and the polarization plane of the coarsely balanced measuring light beam

The current optical display thin film transistor liquid crystal display (TFT-LCD) flat panel display technology has become mainstream. China has 400 million domestic large screen flat-panel TV market, large-screen flat-panel TV manufacturing core components, constructing the complete TFT-LCD industrial chain manufacturing is based on China’s economic development is of great strategic significance.
TFT-LCD glass panel substrate is an important component, accounting for LCD TV 7% of raw material costs, accounting for the proportion of LCD panels cost about 17% in the TFT-LCD industry, the role of silicon in the semiconductor industry’s position as important. And it is a thin piece of glass, and has become the soft underbelly of LCD TV industry.
TFT-LCD panel technology is the difference in the two E-glass surface of the substrate and IC packaging color filter drive circuit. Glass substrate surface after etching, the red, green, and blue and black with fine structure built on the glass surface, a color filter. IC drive circuit through the semiconductor process will build CMOS circuits on glass. A color filter glass substrate with a carrier IC drive circuit.
For TFT-LCD glass substrate and the semiconductor vacuum deposition and etching as needed, so the glass substrates and silicon performance requirements similar to the should be able to withstand acid and alkali corrosion and high temperature operating environment, but also must have more sophisticated than the silicon surface accuracy, because the LCD panel on the surface accuracy requirement is almost perfect.
Another glass substrate must be very thin, especially large size LCD-TV. Currently the minimum thickness of the glass substrate may be 0.4 mm thick. Also require high light transmittance of glass substrate, or affect the picture quality because of the need to clean room production, but also high temperature, the glass substrate passing rate is very difficult to control.
Glass substrate of the global market monopolized by four companies, their combined market share of more than 90%. Are the United States Corning (CORNING), Japan, Asahi Glass (AGC), Nippon Electric Glass (NEG) and the Japan board Glass (NSG), of which the United States accounted for 60% of Corning, more than 30% the other three combined. Japan’s Asahi Glass also monopolized the PDP Plasma TV with the glass substrate market, the market share of 90%. PDP TV with the glass substrate than the TFT-LCD glass substrates with higher temperature requirements.
The status of our flat glass industry is excess capacity on the one hand ordinary plate glass, special glass design on the other hand, process, technology, equipment and flat panel display industry chain of China’s development and construction is not complete.
According to China’s flat glass industry access, new development is limited to specific varieties of high quality float glass production line. Special varieties of high-quality float glass production line is able to produce the electronics industry with ultra-thin (1.3mm or less), the solar industry with ultra-white (equivalent to 5mm thick visible light transmittance> 90%), energy-saving construction of three-line Low-E and other high-quality float glass production line.
