Inserts Grade
How do you overcome the desire to “beat yourself up” over small things?
I seriously am depressed by the grades I just received in some of my classes. It’s totally killing my morale, especially since I worked hard in those classes.
Yes, this is a small issue, but that’s my weakness: I let small things get to me. Grr… So just insert for yourself whatever it is that tends to get you down.
How do you overcome those feelings to be all “down in the dumps” over stuff like this?
My dear, grades can often be meaningless. Grades do not give a proper reflection of your intelligence, ability, aptitude, etc. A lot of grades are arbitrary, and are subject to the teacher’s judgment. I commend you for working hard in your classes- you should be proud of yourself! Hey, at least you are in school. You have some positive things going for yourself. I am proud of you!
I can relate to your plight. I often beat myself up over my shortcomings or my perceived shortcomings. I try to be perfect. But you know what, we will never attain perfection. Perfection is illusory.
I can tell just from your question and previous ones that you are intelligent, articulate, and gifted. You have a high work ethic, and you are very studious. The point of getting an education is just that- to be educated. So long as you have learned from your classes, nothing else matters. If you have learned anything at all, you have grown and advanced as a person. Hold your head up! You are a winner, and don’t let your inner critic deceive you into believing anything else. : )
